Weed Of the Week

The weed of the week is…
Clovers!!
Red clover

This featurette is to show you every week what different weeds, yes the things pick and throw out, you can find in your garden and around your house that can be eaten It will also tell you what ways you can cook and prep them, just so you can eat a healthy even when you can’t afford a lot of it. The edible weeds I post all supply the nutrients and other vitamins and minerals your body needs.
Their most obvious feature has to be their purple-red flower and the white v-shaped stripe on their leaves. The flower of the plant does in fact have a round head. They grow in thickets, roadsides and other random locations. I know this because I see them all the time in fields, random patches on the side of my apartment. Clovers are healthy to eat(generally)in many forms such as: in a salad, cooked like greens, ground into flour, or blended with another tea. Clovers are high in protein and the most common parts of them that are consumed are their flower heads and their leaves. However they are easier to eat if you let them soak in water for half an hour or boil them. So next time you see a patch of clovers, show your diligence and pick as much as possible.
P.S. Be cautious there are some clovers that just taste like leaves and others that when you bite them they give off a burst of citrus. But don’t be afraid to try them they are not poisonous
